Cocktail 2 is now crossing some interesting numbers at box office and honestly, that is saying something considering how divided critics have been about this film from day one.
On its 12th day, film recorded net collection of ₹1.85 crore in India . That is actually 5.7% increase compared to previous day which is not bad at all for second Tuesday of theatrical run . Domestic net total now stands at ₹86.75 crore and ₹100 crore milestone is clearly within reach right now .
And when you look at what this film has already crossed,it becomes more impressive .
Homi Adajania's directorial has moved past ₹71 crore earned by original Cocktail back in 2012 . It has also outperformed Shahid Kapoor's earlier film with Triptii Dimri,O'Romeo, which had finished at ₹72.99 crore . That is not small achievement for sequel that got such polarized reception.
Few numbers worth keeping in mind here:
- Global Gross has reached ₹131.89 crore including international contribution of ₹28.45 crore .
- India Gross stands at ₹103.45 crore reflecting stable demand across 3,666 shows.
- Occupancy levels maintained at 23.0% during second Tuesday of theatrical run .
Film is set against scenic backdrop of Sicily and explores loyalty conflict between college sweethearts played by Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna . Things take sharp emotional turn when Kriti Sanon's character Ally enters the picture and whole second half becomes about insecurities and emotional conflicts between all three.
And obviously comparisons with Deepika Padukone were always going to happen . Kriti Sanon addressed this directly in Filmfare interview and honestly her response was quite straightforward . She said,"Ally and Veronica are so different, and I'm glad that they're different. Why would I play the same character that Deepika has already done? That doesn't make sense."
Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Luv Ranjan under banners of Maddock Films and Luv Films, film had strong first week haul of ₹70.50 crore . That foundation clearly helped it sustain into second week despite lukewarm critic reception at start .
Urban centers seem to still be pulling decent footfalls for this one . Whether that momentum carries it cleanly past ₹100 crore domestically before competition arrives… that part is still playing out really.
