On May 25, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar launched a significant five-day workshop entitled "Risk Management and Electoral Resilience" at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM). This initiative is part of the Election Commission of India's efforts to enhance the capabilities of electoral management bodies (EMBs) from twelve different nations. The workshop, organized in collaboration with International IDEA, aims to bolster institutional preparedness and resilience in electoral processes.
During the inaugural session, Gyanesh Kumar and fellow Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi addressed the delegates, emphasizing the importance of identifying and managing electoral risks effectively. The workshop seeks to equip participants with the necessary frameworks, policies, and operational systems to navigate the complexities of electoral integrity and public trust. This is increasingly critical in today's multifaceted risk environment.
- Electoral risk management frameworks — The workshop aims to develop structured approaches for identifying and mitigating electoral risks.
- Practical demonstrations — Participants will engage in hands-on exercises using the Electoral Risk Management Tool (ERMTool).
- Field exposure visits — Delegates will observe ground-level electoral planning and crisis management strategies.
Participants include Election Commissioners and senior officials from various EMBs, as well as professionals engaged in risk management and electoral integrity initiatives. The agenda covers essential topics such as risk identification, resilience strategies, inter-agency coordination, and crisis management. Emphasis is placed on proactive measures to safeguard the legitimacy and continuity of electoral processes.
As the workshop unfolds, delegates are expected to gain valuable insights into practical approaches for risk mitigation and strategic planning. The collaborative nature of the event reflects a commitment to enhancing global electoral practices and fostering dialogue among nations. The knowledge shared during this workshop will undoubtedly contribute to strengthening democratic processes worldwide.
