The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now launched investigation into N . Rengaraj,who retired as Chief Commissioner of Income Tax . Agency has filed case based on allegations that he built assets far beyond his known income sources during tenure as Principal Commissioner of Income Tax in Coimbatore from 2020 to 2024 .
And this is not small allegation ah. According to First Information Report (FIR),Rengaraj is accused of constructing lavish farmhouse and acquiring land valued at ₹16 crore for real estate ventures.
The total estimated value of assets owned by him and his family members is reportedly around ₹23 crore . That number itself raises very serious questions,because for public servant,assets and income sources are always supposed to match properly.
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
