When scheme meant for rural work and labour support gets linked to ₹1 crore embezzlement allegation,it naturally makes people angry because this is public money only.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underscored importance of transparency in government schemes like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). But on ground,in Nandurghat village of Kaij tehsil,Beed Zilla Parishad has now dismissed two officials after investigation found serious fraud in works linked to this scheme.
Chief Executive Officer Jithin Rahman confirmed immediate termination of Technical Assistant Ravindra Darade and Gram Rozgar Sevak Sadeque Shaikh . Action came after many complaints started coming in about irregularities in MGNREGA projects.
A committee led by Vitthal Nagargoje, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Kaij Panchayat Samiti, checked matter properly . And what came out is honestly very disturbing — eight roads were shown as completed on records, but in reality they existed only on paper.
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- Eight roads were documented as completed, while they allegedly existed only on paper.
- Nearly ₹59 lakh was withdrawn from government funds through this fraud.
- Measurement Books for 13 development works were missing, and attendance logs for laborers were allegedly altered.
And tbh, this is where whole issue becomes bigger than just two officials. If records are missing, attendance is manipulated and roads are shown without actual work, then how many layers failed before this got exposed?
BDO Nagargoje stated,"This is a serious case of financial irregularity . We have initiated recovery process. If there is any delay in repaying the amount, criminal cases will be registered against those responsible at the local police station."
Administration has also issued show-cause notices to Village Development Officer Bhagwan Sirsat and Junior Engineer V.M. Sasawade . A proposal has been sent to Divisional Commissioner of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for disqualification of village sarpanch.
This case is being seen as one of largest anti-corruption actions in Kaij tehsil in recent years. But bigger question is still sitting there only — if complaints had not piled up,how long would these paper roads and missing records have continued…
