This Karnataka political drama is getting more interesting, and honestly,Basavaraj Bommai’s latest comments from Haveri feel like direct warning shot at Congress camp . Not some soft criticism, but proper political message around Siddaramaiah,D.K. Shivakumar and what may happen next.
During recent press conference in Haveri, former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said caretaker CM Siddaramaiah’s continued role in state politics is like a 'hanging sword' over Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar . And that line itself says lot about how BJP is reading Congress situation rn.
Bommai also said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will return to power in Karnataka based on its own merits in forthcoming elections . That is big claim, but expected from opposition side only . Still, the timing makes it sharper because Congress is already facing questions over internal power balance.
And then Bommai went into old political memories also . He recalled how Siddaramaiah entered politics in 1983,and how both of them were once politically aligned, especially during launch of AHINDA movement . So this was not just attack from distance, there is personal history there.
But according to Bommai, their paths changed after Siddaramaiah joined Congress party . Political ideologies shifted, but he said they still maintain cordial personal relationship . That part is interesting because in Karnataka politics, personal equation and party fight can both exist at same time ah.
Few things Bommai pointed out clearly:
- Congress's treatment of OBC leaders like Siddaramaiah could lead to backlash from OBC communities.
- Congress government has accumulated nearly ₹4 lakh crore debt over past three years without creating productive assets .
- Sidelining of Siddaramaiah has shattered hope among Dalits for Dalit leadership within Congress.
And tbh,the financial attack was also quite strong . Bommai accused Congress government of piling up almost ₹4 lakh crore debt in three years mainly to fund guarantee schemes, but without building productive assets . His point was simple: if debt rises and nothing long-term is created, political cost will come later.
He also brought up Karnataka’s old 'seven-year syndrome',saying several chief ministers lost office after around seven years . He mentioned Nijalingappa and Devaraj Urs,and suggested Siddaramaiah’s tenure may also move in same direction if current dynamics continue.
And now bigger question is whether this is just BJP trying to put pressure on Congress,or whether there is actually deeper discomfort inside ruling side . Because when words like 'hanging sword' enter political conversation,it usually means something is already boiling somewhere…
