In preparation for Mumbai Climate Week 2026, Avid Learning organized a pivotal event titled "Edible Futures: Tasting Tomorrow in a Warming World" on February 16, 2026. This interdisciplinary discussion brought together key stakeholders from agriculture, governance, media, and sustainability to explore the pressing challenges posed by climate change on food systems in India. The event was hosted in collaboration with esteemed organizations such as the National Gallery of Modern Art, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), and Project Mumbai, along with support from the Government of Maharashtra's Department of Environment and Climate Change.
The conversation focused on how rising global temperatures, erratic rainfall patterns, and declining soil health are transforming food production, distribution, and consumption in India. As the nation grapples with climate-induced challenges, the dialogue emphasized the urgent need for innovative solutions that safeguard food security, public health, and the livelihoods of farmers across the country.
- Importance of collaboration — The event highlighted the need for cross-sector partnerships to tackle climate change.
- Focus on indigenous practices — Discussions emphasized the role of indigenous crops and regenerative agriculture.
- Climate-smart technologies — Experts shared insights on scalable solutions for sustainable food systems.
During the event, Shishir Joshi, co-Founder and CEO of Project Mumbai, stated, "Edible Futures reflects a highly significant theme for this year's Mumbai Climate Week - how changing our food systems can support climate solutions." This sentiment encapsulates the essence of the discussion, which aimed to inspire action towards community-led, climate-smart food systems that can serve as a model for the Global South.
Panelists, including agriculture experts and sustainability advocates, shared grounded case studies and systems-level perspectives on how food systems can act as levers for climate action. The event underscored the critical role of dietary shifts and consumer awareness in fostering climate-resilient food futures. Asad Lalljee, CEO of Avid Learning, emphasized the importance of examining food systems through the lens of long-term environmental responsibility, stating, "Through such platforms for dialogue, we aim to support more inclusive, adaptive, and future-facing responses to a changing world."
