In a series of operations in Mizoram, Assam Rifles, alongside other agencies, seized methamphetamine tablets and foreign cigarettes valued at ₹35.71 crore, apprehending four suspects. The operations were part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region, which has seen a spike in illegal activities due to its proximity to Myanmar. Key Takeaways

  • Assam Rifles seize contraband worth ₹35.71 crore
  • Four individuals arrested in drug operations
  • Mizoram faces challenges from cross-border smuggling

This Mizoram seizure story is honestly not small thing ah . Assam Rifles carried out three different operations and contraband worth ₹35.71 crore was seized, including methamphetamine tablets and foreign cigarettes.

And when you hear one lakh methamphetamine tablets being hidden inside server hardware,it immediately shows how far smugglers are going now . This is not normal concealment, they are clearly trying to use every possible trick.

First operation happened in Lawngtlai district, based on specific intelligence inputs . Troops intercepted two suspected drug peddlers and found one lakh methamphetamine tablets, weighing approximately 9.807 kg,hidden inside server hardware . Later, apprehended individuals and seized drugs were handed over to Assistant Commissioner for further investigation.

Few things standing out clearly here:

  • Contraband worth ₹35.71 crore was seized across three operations .
  • One lakh methamphetamine tablets were recovered in Lawngtlai district.
  • 218 cartons of foreign cigarettes and 20 cases of illegal foreign-origin cigarettes were also seized.

And then came Aizawl district operation, where Assam Rifles worked with Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) . They intercepted truck carrying 218 cartons of foreign cigarettes, and one person identified as Larintluanga was arrested.

Those cigarettes were valued at around ₹5.23 crore and were handed over to DRI for legal proceedings . ₹5.23 crore in cigarettes only, that itself tells how big this illegal trade has become.

Third operation was in Champhai district, again based on credible intelligence about contraband smuggling . Troops searched area and recovered 20 cases of illegal foreign-origin cigarettes with market value of approximately ₹48 lakh, leading to another arrest.

And tbh,India-Myanmar border has always been sensitive because of porous routes and constant movement . Mizoram being close to Myanmar makes this fight against narcotics and smuggling even more difficult for forces on ground.

What feels worrying is not just value of seized items, but pattern . Meth tablets, cigarettes, different districts, different hiding methods… so question is how much is still moving quietly without getting caught…
