Assam politics had busy day on May 29,and honestly, this looks like one of those review-marathon days where everything sounds positive on paper, but real test is always delivery on ground .
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held series of strategic meetings through day, mainly to check progress of government initiatives and big infrastructure projects . Whole push was linked with strengthening implementation of "Double Engine Government" initiatives across Assam.
And Sarma also brought upcoming state budget into discussion . He directed Finance Department to make sure commitments made to citizens are actually fulfilled, not just kept as budget speech lines.
He also posted on X,"Throughout the day,I chaired meetings with key departments to review the progress of schemes of our Double Engine Govt, which will give thrust to Assam’s development journey." That sounds confident, but citizens will naturally judge by hospitals, roads and services they see daily.
Few things standing out from meetings:
- Infant Mortality Rate reduction target is to lower IMR below national average by 2029.
- Healthcare facility upgrades include better services in tea garden areas and addressing manpower shortages.
- Infrastructure project reviews included Guwahati-Silchar Expressway and Gohpur-Numaligarh Tunnel.
And tbh, health part is not small thing ah . In separate meeting with Health Department,Sarma discussed strategies to strengthen healthcare sector, especially quality of services in underserved areas . He also reviewed outcomes of recently held Mega Health Camps and pushed for continuous improvement in health initiatives across state.
But healthcare promises always sound simple from meeting room . Tea garden areas, manpower gaps,IMR target below national average by 2029… these are serious issues and need steady follow-up,not one-time camp energy only.
On infrastructure side,Sarma met officials from National Highways Authority of India and related organizations to assess status of ongoing projects . He urged them to speed up timelines while making sure quality standards are not compromised.
And this is where people will keep watching closely . Assam has big development plans, yes, but whether these meetings turn into faster roads, better hospitals and fulfilled budget commitments… that question is still hanging…
