The launch of the Amrit Bharat Express trains has been heralded as a significant achievement for the Indian Railways, particularly under the auspices of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). Since their introduction in January 2026, these modern trains have garnered widespread acclaim from passengers traveling between Assam and West Bengal. Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR, highlighted the remarkable response from the public, emphasizing that the trains' comfort, affordability, and reliability have contributed to their soaring popularity.
These trains connect important destinations such as Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Alipurduar Junction, and New Jalpaiguri with major cities throughout India. The occupancy rates have been impressive, with several services exceeding 100% capacity, demonstrating a robust demand from passengers. According to Sharma, the Amrit Bharat Express services have recorded a total of seven pairs of trains operating from Assam and West Bengal, significantly enhancing rail connectivity in the region.
- High occupancy rates — Some routes have seen utilization exceeding 140% on multiple trips.
- Strong financial performance — The trains have collectively transported over 1.78 lakh passengers and generated earnings of more than ₹23 crore.
- Modern amenities — The trains feature spacious seating, better interiors, and economical fares designed for the common passenger.
The Amrit Bharat Express trains have not only improved passenger travel experiences but have also played a vital role in regional development and tourism. The enhanced connectivity between the Northeast and the rest of India is expected to stimulate economic growth and foster greater integration. Notably, the route between Kamakhya and Rohtak achieved utilization rates as high as 136%, showcasing the growing public confidence in these services.
As the NFR continues to develop its services, the commitment to enhancing passenger amenities remains a priority. Sharma reiterated that the NFR is dedicated to providing safe, efficient, and passenger-centric railway services. The success of the Amrit Bharat Express aligns with the Indian Railways' broader vision of modernizing transportation and ensuring inclusive growth, making travel accessible to all sectors of society.
