It is about family running from one door to another and still not getting clear answer from authorities.
Amnesty International has now appealed to Chief Minister of Sindh,Syed Murad Ali Shah,to address enforced disappearance of 38-year-old Baloch man named Dad Shah . He was reportedly taken from his home in Karachi on April 21 by personnel from Pakistan's Counter Terrorism Department.
Since then, his whereabouts have remained unknown . And that is not small thing ah,especially when family is saying they are not even getting basic transparency about where he is and what condition he is in.
What makes this more worrying is how his family was treated while trying to seek justice . They reportedly faced resistance from law enforcement when they tried to file criminal report, and that report did not name any state actors involved in incident.
Then on April 25,his sister,Fozia Baloch, who is known as human rights defender, was allegedly harassed and arbitrarily detained when she tried to hold press conference about her brother's disappearance . And tbh, this is where whole situation starts looking even more scary .
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- Amnesty International has demanded thorough investigation into Dad Shah's enforced disappearance.
- Amnesty International has asked authorities to protect Shah's family from reprisals.
- Dad Shah had also reportedly faced previous enforced disappearance in August 2023.
Amnesty International has also raised concern about his health because Shah suffers from multiple allergies, and if he is being held somewhere without proper care, that can become dangerous very fast . They have asked authorities to immediately disclose his whereabouts, protect him from torture and mistreatment, and provide necessary healthcare .
There is also this disturbing part from August 2023,when he was reportedly pressured during previous enforced disappearance to silence his sister's advocacy efforts . So this is not looking like random one-time incident only,it has history behind it .
The rights group has also said he should not face fabricated charges meant to silence him or his family's activism . And when cases like this keep coming from Pakistan, especially around Balochistan,it leaves one very uncomfortable question hanging… how many families are still waiting like this without any answer?
