Nearly 30 families of victims have formally written to Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu,asking for much greater clarity in ongoing investigation . And families of victims say they are still waiting for basic answers from Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau,also known as AAIB.
The letter they have sent is not just emotional appeal . It carries very specific technical and legal demands that suggest these families have done serious homework .
Three things standing out clearly from what families are asking:
- Simulator validation required — families want independent tests done to confirm whether preliminary report's sequence of events actually holds up under scrutiny .
- Expert pilot induction — group is specifically requesting commercial pilot with Dreamliner experience to be added to official inquiry team.
- Legal rights protection — serious concerns raised over compensation documents that reportedly contain clauses asking families to waive claims against foreign manufacturing firms.
That last point is where things get really uncomfortable .
Families say compensation paperwork being distributed by Air India contains language requiring them to surrender legal rights against airline and partners like Boeing,General Electric and Honeywell . Their statement puts it plainly — "We should not be asked to give up legal rights before final investigation report is released and facts are established." And honestly,asking grieving families to sign away their right to seek justice before facts are even established… that is difficult thing to defend.
Federation of Indian Pilots has also stepped up and supported demand for full-flight simulator tests . These tests would either challenge or confirm current theories around pilot error,which preliminary findings have not fully settled yet.
AAIB has previously said final report will only come after exhaustive international reviews and technical consultations are completed . But families are now demanding fixed deadline for that release,along with progress updates every 15 or 30 days so process does not just disappear into silence.
And this is where situation raises bigger question about how investigation systems communicate with victims' families in India . Being kept in dark for long time while also being handed paperwork that potentially limits your legal options… both things happening at same time feels deeply wrong .
