In golf, that is not small thing ah,especially at US Open Golf Championship where one bad hole can suddenly change whole mood.
Clark came into final round after strong third round performance, and that eagle on the 16th hole seems to have put real pressure on everyone behind him . Scottie Scheffler and others are not exactly out,but they are clearly chasing from uncomfortable distance.
Few things standing out rn:
- Wyndham Clark leads by six strokes and is aiming for historic victory.
- Scottie Scheffler and others are still trying to keep pressure alive.
- No player has ever lost a six-stroke lead at US Open.
But location makes this more interesting . Tournament is happening at Shinnecock Hills, and everyone knows USGA can make things tricky there anytime . Fast greens, wind, awkward lies… this course does not allow anyone to relax properly.
Yesterday itself showed how tough conditions were . Only two players finished under par, with Emiliano Grillo shooting 67 and Scottie Scheffler carding 69 . That tells enough about how hard scoring was.
Today, winds are slightly calmer and greens are still fast but looking little more playable . Already several players have gone sub-70,including Peter Uihlein, who bounced back from earlier 80 and finished with 66 . That kind of comeback also shows scores are available if player holds nerve.
And this is where Clark’s situation becomes both comfortable and dangerous . His scrambling ability and strategic play helped him badly in third round, but protecting big lead at US Open is different pressure only . Every missed putt starts feeling bigger .
Historic side is also hanging over this whole round . Largest lead ever lost in this championship was five strokes,so Clark is ahead by margin which looks safe on paper . But golf paper and golf reality are two different things.
Scheffler chasing career slam adds another layer too . If he starts making birdies early, then suddenly crowd energy, scoreboard pressure and Clark’s own mind can all come into picture .
So yes,Clark is in best position right now,but Shinnecock Hills does not really care about comfort zones . Six strokes look huge… until one swing, one bunker, one fast green starts asking questions…
