World Meteorological Organization has now officially warned that El Nino is developing rapidly and could become a strong event between July and September 2026 . And honestly,this is not small news at all because when El Nino hits hard,it messes with weather patterns across entire planet.
So what exactly is El Nino . Simply put,it causes warmer surface temperatures in central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean . This then triggers widespread changes in wind,pressure and rainfall patterns globally . WMO says this phenomenon typically emerges every two to seven years and lasts approximately nine to twelve months . This current one is being predicted to reach strong classification,which is not something to take lightly .
WMO chief Celeste Saulo has stated directly,"El Nino conditions are already under way and are forecast to strengthen rapidly into a strong event." That kind of clear,confident statement from top climate authority should honestly make governments sit up and pay attention right now .
And what makes this more alarming is that conditions have already developed in tropical Pacific . Climate models are consistently showing significant warming in central and eastern equatorial Pacific . WMO says they have strong confidence in their predictions,which means this is not just speculation or guesswork .

More energy and moisture in system means more extreme weather outcomes when El Nino does hit . So even if climate change does not cause more El Ninos,it makes existing ones potentially more destructive.
