One very controversial situation has now come out involving Diljit Dosanjh's latest film Satluj,which appeared on Zee5 for barely 48 hours before completely disappearing . And honestly,the reason behind this sudden removal is far more serious than just some technical glitch.
The film premiered on July 3 on Zee5 platform but was quickly pulled down from both Indian and international libraries . Now Information and Broadcasting Ministry has stepped in and revealed something quite significant — film never actually received clearance certificate from Central Board of Film Certification at all.
Originally this project was titled Punjab 95 and has been stuck in regulatory trouble for months already . Ministry noted that filmmakers failed to implement specific modifications suggested by CBFC despite several rounds of discussions . So mandatory certification was still pending when film suddenly appeared on streaming platform under new title Satluj . That timing clearly caught officials off guard.
Three things standing out clearly from what we know right now:
- Ministry identified elements in film that could potentially compromise national security interests.
- Formal order was issued under Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules to enforce the takedown .
- Film's digital release without CBFC approval was deemed violation of existing broadcasting protocols.
Director and writer Niren Bhatt was quick to clarify that none of this was planned for attention . He stated clearly,"This is not a marketing stunt . Every producer wants film to recover the budget." He also added that team originally intended for theatrical release but those plans kept getting blocked because of ongoing certification deadlock.
And that part is not a small thing at all . The film is biographical drama based on life of Jaswant Singh Khalra,a prominent human rights activist . That subject alone explains why this project has been facing so much resistance from very beginning.
Honestly,this is not even first time film has faced this level of opposition . Back in 2023,Satluj was scheduled to screen at Toronto International Film Festival but that screening got cancelled following objections from Indian authorities . Reports also suggest CBFC had previously demanded 127 cuts to film's footage . That is a massive number,and shows how deep disagreements go.
Along with Diljit Dosanjh,film features Arjun Rampal and Suvinder Vicky in key roles . So this is not some low-budget independent project — real names,real investments,real stakes involved here.
And honestly,this is where situation becomes genuinely uncomfortable to think about .
