Mumbai is getting absolutely hammered by rain right now and honestly,situation is looking quite serious across region. IMD has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for July 8,2026 covering multiple districts and disruptions have already started piling up.
According to IMD,areas like Mumbai,Thane,Palghar and Raigad are all facing severe downpours . And Palghar specifically could see extremely heavy rainfall,which is not small thing at all given how vulnerable that area gets during monsoon .
Wind gusts are expected to reach speeds of 60 to 70 kmph in parts of Konkan region . That alone raises serious concerns about local flooding,flash floods and potential landslides in already fragile areas .
And honestly,rail network is where impact is being felt most visibly right now.
Western Railway services have been badly disrupted due to waterlogging and severe weather conditions . Train No. 20908 which started its journey on July 7 was short-terminated at Gandhidham itself,with remaining route to Dadar getting cancelled entirely . Dadar-Bhuj Sayajinagari Express and Ahmedabad-Bandra Terminus Karnavati Express are also among affected services.
Three key things to know from this situation:
- IMD has warned of rough sea conditions along Konkan coast posing risks to crops and fragile structures nearby.
- Western Railway has asked passengers to check updates through National Train Enquiry System or Rail Madad helpline 139.
- Maharashtra CMO has issued advisory to farmers asking them to adapt agricultural activities according to changing weather conditions .
Now this is where situation gets more complicated. While Mumbai and Western Maharashtra are dealing with excessive rain,rest of state is actually facing opposite problem . Regions like Khandesh,Central Maharashtra and parts of Western Vidarbha are reportedly receiving insufficient rainfall right now .
Agriculture Department has specifically advised farmers in those areas to delay sowing operations until soil becomes adequately moist . So at same time,one part of Maharashtra is flooding and another part is still waiting for proper rain to arrive…
IMD has also flagged that transportation across road,rail,air and ferry services could all face disruptions as weather conditions continue . Sea conditions along Konkan coast are projected to remain rough for foreseeable period.
And this uneven distribution of rainfall across Maharashtra really does raise questions about how farmers and local administrations plan for such extreme variation within single state. Some areas drowning,some areas dry,and weather bureau issuing warnings for both situations simultaneously . Nobody quite knows yet how long this pattern continues or which regions get hit next
