On May 31,2026,the US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that it disabled Gambia-flagged maritime vessel,M/V Lian Star, and honestly, this is not small incident ah.
The vessel was reportedly moving through international waters toward Iranian port in Gulf of Oman . CENTCOM says crew was given more than 20 warnings that they were violating US blockade, but they did not respond.
And then situation crossed into military action . US aircraft fired Hellfire missile into ship's engine room, disabling it after warnings were ignored . That image itself says a lot about how tense this blockade has become .
CENTCOM also said this is not one random case only . According to it,US military has disabled total of five commercial vessels and redirected 116 others during ongoing naval blockade.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- M/V Lian Star was disabled on May 31,2026 after more than 20 warnings.
- US military says five commercial vessels were disabled and 116 others redirected .
- Blockade followed collapse in negotiations between US and Iranian delegations in April .
And background makes whole thing even heavier . This blockade started after talks between US and Iranian delegations collapsed in April, and it reportedly cost Iran around ₹4.8 billion in oil revenue . For economy depending heavily on oil, this kind of hit is not small at all .
There was also earlier interception of an Iranian-flagged cargo vessel on April 19 . So M/V Lian Star case feels like part of larger pressure campaign, not isolated move . US blockade still applies to Iranian ships and vessels bound for Iranian ports .
Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has also said blockade is “very much still in place.” That statement came even as reports talked about tentative deal between US and Iran over reopening Strait of Hormuz, which is such important maritime route.
But President Donald Trump has still not made final decision on that matter . And that is where uncertainty is sitting rn,because one missile, one wrong move, one misread signal in Gulf of Oman can quickly become something much bigger…
