On May 21, 2026, during a significant event at the KTD Singh Police Training Academy in Narsingarh, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha urged the police force to intensify efforts in combating cybercrime and ensuring the safety of women and children. Addressing the newly-recruited constables from the 91st and 92nd batches, Saha emphasized the importance of a tech-savvy, community-oriented police system that is both effective and approachable.
During the ceremony, Saha stated that the newly-trained constables, which included 318 women, had undergone rigorous training over 11 months. They were educated on various critical aspects of policing, such as traffic management, disaster response, crowd control, and maintaining public order. Saha, who also oversees the Home portfolio, highlighted that the police's integrity and dedication are vital in addressing the emerging challenges of modern policing.
- Focus on Cybercrime — Saha stressed that adapting to technological advancements is essential to effectively combat cybercrime.
- Recruitment Initiatives — An announcement was made regarding the recruitment of 218 Sub-Inspectors and an additional 916 constables to bolster the police force.
- Empowerment of Women — The increasing participation of women in the police reflects the growing empowerment and involvement of women in law enforcement.
In his address, Saha reiterated the government's commitment to enhancing police infrastructure and capabilities, asserting that modern policing cannot succeed without leveraging advanced technology. He emphasized that ensuring a safe environment for women and children is a top priority for both the government and police administration.
The Chief Minister also underscored the necessity for the new recruits to familiarize themselves with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which took effect on July 1, 2024, replacing outdated colonial laws. Understanding this new legal framework is crucial for effective policing, he noted, as it will guide their actions in the years to come. He called upon the police force to aspire towards becoming one of India's most professional and respected law enforcement agencies.
Finally, Director General of Police Anurag provided insights into the comprehensive training received by the constables, which included crowd control, investigation techniques, and weapon handling. Jayanta Chakraborty, the Principal of the KTD Singh Police Training Academy, also addressed the attendees, inspiring them to uphold the values of service and dedication in their new roles.
