A tragic incident unfolded in Mumbai on February 14 when a slab from the parapet wall of the under-construction Metro Rail line 4 collapsed, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to three others. The incident occurred around noon in the Mulund area, specifically near the Johnson and Johnson factory on LBS Road, where the slab fell onto a passing autorickshaw and a Skoda car, causing significant damage.
The deceased has been identified as Ramdhan Yadav, while the injured include Rajkumar Indrajeet Yadav (45), who is currently in critical condition, and others, Mahendra Pratap Yadav (52) and Deepa Ruhiya (40), who are reported to be stable. The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) confirmed that the slab fell at approximately 12:15 PM near pier 196 of the metro line construction, which is a vital route connecting Wadala to Thane.
- One fatality confirmed — Ramdhan Yadav lost his life in the incident.
- Injuries reported — Three individuals, including Rajkumar, are receiving treatment.
- Investigation launched — Authorities are probing the cause of the slab collapse.
- Criticism of safety measures — Political leaders demand accountability from the state government.
The MMRDA has initiated relief operations at the site and is working closely with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and disaster management authorities to secure the area. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the collapse, which has raised serious concerns regarding safety protocols in ongoing metro construction projects.
Political leaders have been quick to criticize the state government in light of this incident. Aaditya Thackeray from the Shiv Sena (UBT) expressed outrage over the recurring safety issues in metro projects, citing previous incidents where newly inaugurated metro line 3 faced flooding. He questioned whether the government would hold the contractor accountable or merely impose a nominal penalty. Similarly, Congress leader Varsha Gaikwad highlighted the apparent disregard for public safety, demanding accountability and emphasizing that development should not come at the expense of citizens' lives.
