Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, has launched a scathing critique of the NDA government regarding the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. During a press conference, he expressed grave concerns over the safety of women and children, asserting that ordinary citizens are increasingly feeling unsafe. He pointed to alarming reports indicating that 8,681 children went missing in Bihar over the past month, with nearly 85% of them being girls. This statistic raises serious alarms about the state’s commitment to safeguarding its most vulnerable populations.
In his statement, Yadav highlighted the rising incidents of violent crimes, including rape, gang rape, robbery, and murder, claiming that these occurrences have surged under the current administration. He specifically criticized Bihar's Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, for failing to implement effective crime control measures despite the government's reliance on modern technology and AI-based surveillance systems. Yadav referred to recent tragic events, such as the murder of a NEET aspirant and alarming cases of molestation and attempted kidnapping of a minor in Patna, as indicative of a breakdown in law enforcement.
- Rising crime rates — Yadav reported a significant increase in violent crimes against women and children.
- Failure of technology — He criticized the government for not effectively using surveillance technology to combat crime.
- Call for accountability — Yadav pledged to hold the government responsible for its failures in ensuring public safety.
Yadav also referenced the “NAARI 2025” report, which categorized Patna as one of the least safe cities for women. He urged the government to prioritize substantial administrative reforms to enhance public safety rather than engage in political rhetoric and social media campaigns. "The opposition will continue to raise issues related to the safety and security of women and children in Bihar," he stated, emphasizing the need for accountability from the government.
As the opposition leader, Yadav's commitment to advocating for women's and children's safety reflects a broader concern about governance in Bihar. He expressed dissatisfaction with the state's current approach to crime and safety, insisting that urgent action is required to restore public trust and ensure a secure environment for all citizens, especially for those studying or living away from their hometowns.
