The Republic Day Parade 2026 witnessed remarkable displays of military prowess and cultural heritage as the Indian Navy was honored with the award for the best marching contingent among the three armed services. This contingent, comprising 144 young personnel, marched down the historic Kartavya Path, demonstrating India's growing maritime strength and commitment to national security. Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi praised the team for their dedication, discipline, and tireless effort, which contributed to this prestigious recognition.
In the category of states and Union Territories, Maharashtra emerged victorious with its vibrant tableau showcasing the Ganeshotsav festival. This display artfully blended tradition with modernity, representing the festival as a symbol of self-reliance. Following Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir secured the second position with its captivating houseboat-themed float, while Kerala grabbed third place for highlighting its achievements in digital literacy and water metro initiatives.
- Culture Ministry wins top honors — The float celebrating 150 years of Vande Mataram was adjudged the best among ministries and departments.
- Delhi Police recognized — The force was awarded for having the best marching contingent among the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
- Popular Choice awards announced — The Assam Regiment was voted the best service contingent by the public.
One of the highlights of the parade was the Culture Ministry's tableau, themed Vande Mataram: The Soul-Cry of a Nation, which featured the original manuscript being composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. This tableau also included impressive art installations of freedom fighters and a rendition of the song by a group representing the 'Gen Z' generation, emphasizing the enduring legacy of India's freedom struggle.
As part of the festivities, a special prize was awarded to the Central Public Works Department for its floral tribute. The 'Popular Choice' awards, determined via an online poll on the MyGov portal, saw the CRPF win the public vote for the best CAPF marching unit, while Gujarat topped the popular choice for states with its theme of Swadeshi-Self-Reliance. The formal award ceremony is scheduled for January 30, 2026, at the Rashtriya Rangshala Camp, further underscoring the significance of this annual celebration of India's sovereignty and unity.
