Finally some good news for Indian badminton fans ah,with PV Sindhu making a solid comeback at Indonesia Open 2026 . Her win against Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan was so needed.
The match was at Istora Senayan stadium in Jakarta on June 2,and it was not an easy fight . That first game was super close, ending 25-23 for Sindhu . She then took second game 21-16,finishing whole thing in just over 51 minutes.
And honestly, this win is huge. It's her 11th straight victory against Ongbamrungphan, and more importantly,it puts her back in BWF world rankings top 10 for first time since 2023 . That's a long wait.
But it wasn't just Sindhu's day . The men's doubles pair of Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun also had one great match . They beat the Malaysian duo of Tan Wee Kiong and Nur Mohd Azriyn in straight games,21-18,21-10,and that too in just 33 minutes only. Very impressive performance .
Few things standing out from the day:
- Sindhu is officially back in the world top 10 after a long gap.
- Men's doubles pair Arjun-Hariharan looked very dominant against an experienced Malaysian team .
- But it was mixed results overall with big names like Lakshya Sen facing tough defeats.
And tbh,it was a difficult day for others . Lakshya Sen lost to local player Alwi Farhan 21-19,21-16 . women's doubles team of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand also lost their match 14-21,12-21,and so did the mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto.
So while we celebrate Sindhu's win,the next round is where things get really serious .
She is now set to face world no. 1 and reigning Olympic champion,An Se-young . And this is the part that is making everyone nervous .
Sindhu has 0-9 record against the Korean player . That's not just a statistic, that's a huge mental block.
Everyone is hoping she can finally break the streak this time . But with record like that against the best player in the world rn… it’s going to be a massive, massive challenge…
