Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Uttar Pradesh next week to lay the foundation stone for north India's first semiconductor manufacturing facility in Gautam Buddh Nagar. This project, set for February 21, is viewed as a pivotal step in transforming the state into a global hub for high-technology manufacturing and electronics.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the visit during a session in the Legislative Council on February 16. He highlighted that the state has achieved "excellent connectivity by water, land, and air," which has paved the way for massive industrial investments. The Prime Minister will also focus on regional transit improvements during his two-day engagement in the state.
- Namo Bharat Corridor completion — The final stretches of the 82-km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor will be opened to the public
- Meerut Metro launch — A 23-km metro corridor featuring 13 stations will begin operations on February 22
- Expressway dominance — Uttar Pradesh now accounts for 55% of India's total expressway network with 22 projects
On February 22, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the remaining sections of the 82-km regional rapid transit system. This includes a 5-km stretch in Delhi and a 21-km stretch in Meerut, effectively connecting Sarai Kale Khan with Modipuram. The project is expected to reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut to just 45 minutes.
The Uttar Pradesh government is also pushing for the operationalization of the Jewar International Airport. Yogi Adityanath noted that the state has grown from having only two operational airports to 16. Additionally, the country's first Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hub is being established at Jewar to support the burgeoning aviation sector.
