Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate SEMICON India 2026 on September 17 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, marking the beginning of a three-day convention dedicated to the semiconductor and electronics ecosystem in India. This year's event, running from September 17 to 19, aims to foster industry engagement, policy direction, and international partnerships within the rapidly evolving semiconductor landscape.
The convention is jointly organized by the India Semiconductor Mission, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and the global industry body SEMI. Under the theme "Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem," SEMICON India 2026 is expected to attract over 600 exhibitors, including approximately 300 international firms, showcasing advancements across a vast exhibition area of 15,000 square meters.

The government has approved twelve semiconductor projects, with three units from the first phase, Semicon 1.0, already in commercial production. Additionally, the Union Cabinet has greenlit the next phase, Semicon 2.0, which is structured around six core pillars aimed at enhancing India's semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.
The convention will also extend electronic design automation tools to over 400 academic institutions and 105 startups, while 24 startups have received approvals under the Design Linked Incentive scheme. This initiative reflects India's commitment to bolstering its semiconductor ecosystem and ensuring a skilled workforce for the future.
The event will unveil a new 'Sand to Silicon to Systems' Value Chain Experience, providing attendees with an integrated view of the semiconductor ecosystem. It will highlight India's growing capabilities across various stages of the semiconductor value chain. The Startup Pavilion will feature around 40 startups, while the Workforce Development Pavilion will focus on talent acquisition, skills enhancement, and career opportunities within the microelectronics sector.
Overall, SEMICON India 2026 presents a significant opportunity for both Indian and international companies to explore partnerships, investment opportunities, and technology collaborations, thereby further solidifying India's reputation as a trusted global semiconductor partner.
