So Parliament's Monsoon Session kicked off on July 21,2026 and honestly,the whole first day felt less like democracy in action and more like organised chaos from both sides of aisle .
Prime Minister Narendra Modi started things on somewhat positive note,urging members to engage with logic and facts . He said "Every voice should find an opportunity to be heard" . Nice sentiment . But within minutes,entire session turned into something very different from what he described.
Opposition members from Cockroach Janta Party actually attempted to breach barricades inside Lok Sabha demanding resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over NEET paper leak allegations . Not small protest . Physical barrier breach inside Parliament itself.
And presiding officer Jagdambika Pal kept appealing to opposition to allow proper discussions on public matters . Nobody really listened.
Few things that defined this entire day:
- Lok Sabha had to be adjourned six times due to continuous disruptions,finally wrapping up around 3 PM.
- Opposition members were demanding accountability over alleged NEET examination paper leak and also raising issues around Ram temple donation.
- Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced bill to increase Supreme Court judges from 34 to 38 during same session.
Session had started at 11 AM with opposition slogans filling entire hall . Speaker Om Birla adjourned House until noon during Question Hour itself . What made things worse was protests were continuing even during obituary references for former MPs . Speaker expressed clear disapproval over that specifically,because that is one moment where even political opponents are expected to show basic decorum.
When session resumed at noon,uproar continued and led to yet another adjournment . So same cycle kept repeating throughout entire day.
Rajya Sabha was dealing with same turmoil simultaneously . Congress and other opposition parties were demanding action against those responsible for NEET question paper leak . Deputy Chairman Harivansh addressed members,stressed that House should be platform for discussion . But despite all these appeals,no actual legislative business got conducted in Rajya Sabha either.
And honestly,that last part is what really stings . Entire day gone . Zero legislative work done . One bill introduction in Lok Sabha was only concrete thing that happened in whole session's first day.
There is something deeply uncomfortable about watching elected representatives obstruct very institution they were elected to participate in . Both sides will claim they were right . Government will say opposition disrupted proceedings . Opposition will say they had no choice given seriousness of NEET leak allegations and donation controversies . And citizens sitting outside watching all this are left wondering when actual work begins…
Because NEET paper leak is not small issue . It affected lakhs of students and their futures . That deserves proper floor discussion,proper debate,proper answers . Whether blocking Parliament for entire day actually gets those answers or just delays them further is question nobody seems to want to honestly address right now.
