So NSUI has finally gone to court against CBSE over this whole digital marking system . And honestly,it feels like something that was bound to happen.
This new system is called On-Screen Marking or OSM . Basically they scan physical exam papers and teachers are supposed to evaluate them on computer screens . good idea on paper maybe, but execution seems to be creating huge mess for thousands of students .
The NSUI,led by its President Vinod Jhakhar, has filed a Public Interest Litigation in Delhi High Court . They are saying the system is just not working properly. Students are reporting blurred scans, even missing pages from their answer sheets, and getting marks that make no sense at all.
And tbh, this is the main problem . Class 12 marks are everything. They decide college admissions, future opportunities, all of it. When that record itself is faulty,it can completely change student's life path.
The petition claims these aren't just one or two random errors but a big systemic failure .
Few things standing out in this whole situation:
- CBSE itself apparently admitted there were technical issues with portal for scanned answer sheets .
- After results, over 1,27,146 applications were filed for nearly 3,87,399 scanned papers. That number is huge.
- Students don't seem to have any proper way to get a manual verification or independent rechecking done.
The PIL argues this is unjust . How can some students get proper evaluation while others suffer because of a technical glitch? They are saying it violates Article 14 of Constitution, which guarantees equality.
And this all is happening when CBSE just announced the Class 12 results on May 13 . overall pass percentage has dropped to 85.20% from 88.39% last year . Reports are also saying fewer students scored above 90% this time.
Now CBSE has opened its online portal for verification and re-evaluation . But after all this, you have to wonder if that process is reliable either.
The whole thing is just so stressful for students who already went through so much pressure for these exams . To have your hard work questioned by a technical error is terrible feeling…
