So Mumbai schools, offices and colleges are expected to stay open on July 8 and honestly this is one of those situations where people were refreshing their phones all morning waiting for holiday announcement that never came .
IMD has downgraded the weather warning from Orange Alert to Yellow Alert . That basically means heavy rain is still possible at some isolated locations but overall conditions have improved compared to previous days . No official holiday has been declared as of now for schools, colleges or offices in Mumbai.
And that Yellow Alert distinction actually matters here . Orange was raising real concern across the city . Yellow means situation is relatively better but definitely not fully clear either .
Still, few things residents need to keep in mind right now:
- Low-lying areas in Mumbai still face risk of waterlogging and flooding despite alert downgrade.
- Pune and Satara are still under Orange Alert meaning weather situation across Maharashtra is not uniform at all .
- BMC disaster response teams are on standby with equipment ready to handle any flooding emergencies.
BMC has also suggested that private companies consider letting employees work from home if conditions get worse during the day . That is not directive, just a recommendation . But given how unpredictable Mumbai monsoon gets, many companies might take that suggestion seriously .
Authorities have also put out clear advice asking residents to follow only official communications from BMC,Maharashtra School Education Department and verified social media accounts . Reason being that every time there is heavy rain situation in Mumbai, misinformation about school holidays spreads extremely fast online and causes unnecessary confusion for parents and students.
Honestly, this whole thing still feels uncertain despite the downgrade . Because situation throughout the night is what authorities are actually watching . If rainfall intensifies before morning or IMD raises alert level again, operational status of schools and offices will be reassessed .
So right now, plan is to function normally on July 8 . But that plan is entirely dependent on what monsoon decides to do overnight . And with Mumbai rains, that is never really settled question…
