Mumbai Police have now announced prohibitory orders across entire city,effective from July 23 to August 6,2026 . And honestly,this kind of blanket restriction covering almost two full weeks is not small thing for a city like Mumbai.
The orders have been issued under Section 37(3) read with Section 10(2) of Maharashtra Police Act,1951 . They will come into force from 12:01 AM on July 23 and remain active until midnight on August 6 . Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) and Executive Magistrate Akbar Pathan formally signed off on this order on July 18 itself.
So what exactly does this mean for ordinary people living in city right now?
Basically,assemblies of five or more people,public processions,and use of loudspeakers will not be allowed without prior permission from authorities . That covers lot of everyday public gatherings which people usually take for granted .

The stated reason behind all this is preventing disturbances and maintaining public order during period of heightened security environment . Various public events are apparently anticipated during this timeframe and authorities want peace preserved ahead of time.
But this still leaves one question sitting there… what specific events or political activities triggered decision to go this wide and this long with restrictions? Two full weeks across entire Mumbai under Section 37(3) is not routine thing. And until that picture becomes clearer,residents are really just complying with very broad order without full context of why exactly this particular window was chosen
