Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced on February 3, 2026, that Mizoram has achieved a significant milestone in public health with the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS) reaching a 91% enrollment rate. Speaking at the Knowledge Exchange Health Conclave in Aizawl, the Chief Minister emphasized that the administration has prioritized medical infrastructure to ensure a seamless, cashless treatment system for all citizens.
The state's proactive approach was recently recognized by the National Health Authority, which presented Mizoram with an award for the Best Performance in Achieving Card Saturation. Lalduhoma stated that "health remains the bedrock of Mizoram's progress," noting that the Mizoram Health Systems Strengthening Project (MHSSP) has been the primary catalyst for these systemic upgrades, turning health into a major victory for public accessibility.
- ₹280 crore investment — total funding utilized since 2021 for overhauling medical services across the state
- Infrastructure upgrades — extensive renovation of District Hospitals and Primary Health Centres to improve accessibility
- Quality certifications — multiple state facilities received national recognition for superior resource management
MHSSP Director Dr. Lily Chhakchhuak confirmed that the project is currently on track to meet all its development objectives before the scheduled conclusion in March 2026. As of January 2026, four out of five major goals have already been met, reflecting the efficiency of the implementation team and the sustained financial support from the World Bank.
State Health Minister Lalrinpuii added that these investments have resulted in better equipment procurement and enhanced support for healthcare workers. The two-day conclave also saw participation from health experts representing Telangana, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu, who shared strategies for sustainable medical resource management and long-term healthcare stability in the North East region.
