And the numbers that came out during that session are not small things at all — we are talking about scale of operations that most people probably never think about .
First thing that stood out was advisory focus during briefing . MEA specifically highlighted guidelines for Indian citizens planning Kailash Manasarovar Yatra through private tour operators . Separately, ministry also reiterated its advisory on Iran which was originally issued on June 25,2026,asking travelers to stay cautious given regional security situation there .
And then came the numbers . MEA confirmed that 14,56,17,651 passports have been issued up to May 2026 . That figure alone tells you how massive India's documentation and mobility infrastructure has become over these years.
E-Migrate Portal has also crossed over 52 lakh registered users . These are mostly workers going abroad for employment, and having that kind of tracking system matters for their safety and welfare .
Three things from briefing that really stood out:
- Over 62,671 mortal remains were brought back to India since 2014 under consular assistance operations.
- India now maintains active engagement with more than 192 trading partners worldwide.
- Total of 2,586 MOUs and international agreements were finalized by June 2026 .
One section of briefing that honestly deserves more attention is what ministry has done for diaspora welfare . Under Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh and Pabitra Margherita,a total of 1,307 SPDC scholarships have been awarded . And Indian Community Welfare Fund provided assistance to 3,69,711 individuals facing hardships in foreign countries . That last number especially… it quietly tells you how many Indians abroad sometimes find themselves in really difficult situations.
Ministry also brought up One Family concept introduced during G20 Leaders' Summit in New Delhi . The idea is building one global support system for Indians wherever they are . Right now that network includes 222 Indian missions and posts globally — which is not small infrastructure at all .
Over 39 lakh OCI cards have been issued and ₹1,00,441.45 crore disbursed in grants and loans . These figures show India is not just managing its citizens abroad but actively investing in international development and cooperation at large scale.
And this is where you start thinking about what all this actually means on ground level . Numbers in government briefings can feel abstract sometimes, but behind each passport issued, each mortal remain repatriated, each ICWF assistance case… there is one real person and one real family going through something significant .
Whether all these systems and portals and missions are actually reaching every Indian who needs help abroad — that question still feels worth asking…
