Okay,so Mumbai flooding. Again. But this time, government is talking about a HUGE plan,like ₹13,000 crore . That’s a lot of money,honestly. Makes you wonder if this time they will actually fix things for good.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis presented this in Legislative Assembly,and goal sounds really ambitious . They want to clear water from all 370 flood-prone areas in just 30 minutes. Even with heavy rain and high tide,that's a very big promise .
And we all saw what happened recently,right? Places like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road in Dahisar East were completely under water . But it's not just waterlogging,it’s also about safety. CM himself expressed deep concern over people dying during monsoon.
It's a serious issue,honestly. Mumbai usually sees around five deaths every year just from falling trees . Then you have landslides,building collapses… it is not a small thing,honestly. So this commitment to long-term solutions is important.
So what are they actually doing? Government has identified few key areas they are focusing on to tackle this persistent problem .
- Tree health assessment to make sure old trees are stable,checking root systems to stop accidents .
- Strict verification for desilting process after all those fraud claims came out.
- Prioritizing long-overdue Brihanmumbai Storm Water Drain Project,which is BRIMSTOWAD.
But then CM also talked about why recent floods were so bad. He said it was unprecedented rainfall . And looking at numbers,he has a point. Colaba usually gets like 734 mm rain in July,but this time it got 882 mm in just first six days . Same with Santacruz,from 856 mm to 988 mm in same short period.
That much rain,plus gusty winds and high tides… no wonder city's infrastructure gets hit . Fadnavis says this whole plan,if Government of India approves it,will be a game-changer for Mumbai.
It's not just about draining water faster,but also making city safer . We really hope this time local authorities act quickly and decisively to sort things out. Mumbai has suffered enough,and we have heard promises before…
