In a significant crackdown to ensure food safety during the festive season, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seized an alarming ₹2.22 crore worth of unsafe food items across the state. This operation took place between October 1 and 5, 2026, and is part of a broader initiative to protect consumers during a time when food consumption typically surges.
The FDA's proactive measures have resulted in the filing of 15 First Information Reports (FIRs) and the arrest of 26 individuals for their involvement in distributing substandard and adulterated food products. The raids specifically targeted establishments that were found to be in violation of food safety regulations, highlighting the government's commitment to safeguarding public health.
Among the notable actions taken in Mumbai, five food licenses were suspended, and three were outright canceled due to serious hygiene lapses. Establishments such as Cafe Sultan in Kalina and Lo Fresh Food Pvt Ltd in Marol faced penalties for inadequate food handling practices, while the Country Club and Suraj Lama Momos were cited for violations of Schedule 4 hygiene provisions.
