In light of escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East that have disrupted global supply chains, the Maharashtra government, together with Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) Oil Marketing Companies including BPCL, IOCL, and HPCL, has reassured residents about the availability of essential fuels. The government emphasized that supply operations are being closely monitored to ensure that there are no disruptions. The three PSU Oil Marketing Companies have reported a significant uptick in demand for diesel and petrol, with the first three weeks of May 2026 witnessing an increase of 18.54% in petrol demand and 22.3% for diesel compared to the same period last year. A total of 402 Thousand Kilo Litres (TKL) of petrol and 789 Thousand Kilo Litres (TKL) of diesel have been supplied across Maharashtra.

As part of the ongoing efforts to secure fuel availability, the government has placed restrictions on LPG bookings to ensure equitable distribution, maintaining a 25-day interval for urban consumers and 45 days for those in rural areas. Such measures are crucial as Maharashtra navigates through these challenging circumstances, aiming to provide uninterrupted service to its residents.
