The Indian government has confirmed that the Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor will remain suspended due to security concerns, despite requests from Sikh religious groups for its reopening.
Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh stated in the Lok Sabha that while representations have been received urging an early reopening, the current security scenario necessitates its continued closure.
An agreement between India and Pakistan for the corridor was signed on October 24, 2019. It was extended for a further five-year period in October 2024. Services were suspended with effect from May 7, 2025, following the Pahalgam terror attack.
The minister said the government has received representations from Sikh religious groups and organisations, but the extant security scenario compels the corridor to remain suspended.
