In a proactive move to safeguard voting rights, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), under the leadership of D.K. Shivakumar, has launched an awareness campaign titled ‘Congress Nade, Mata Rakshane Kade’. This initiative aims to educate citizens about the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which is critical for ensuring that no individual is disenfranchised. Speaking at the campaign launch in Devanahalli, Shivakumar remarked, "No one should lose their right to vote. We must provide people with proper documents and safeguard their votes."
Shivakumar highlighted the significance of public cooperation with election authorities to ensure a smooth revision process. He urged citizens to disregard misconceptions about the electoral roll revision, clarifying that it is not merely a mapping exercise. He explained that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are distributing enumeration forms, which must be completed and returned with the necessary documentation. He stated, "Everyone must get rid of the notion that this is a mapping process."
- Focus on awareness over agitation — Shivakumar emphasized the need for education rather than protests regarding the SIR process.
- Cooperation among officials — The campaign encourages collaboration among party workers and election officials, regardless of political affiliations.
- Consequences for non-compliance — Disciplinary actions will be taken against those who fail to engage in the campaign effectively.
Moreover, Shivakumar called on party officials to prioritize this initiative above all else, warning that those who do not comply with the campaign directives would face disciplinary actions. He noted, "We have instructed ministers and MLAs to set aside all other work and focus on this task." This underscores the importance the Congress party places on ensuring that every eligible citizen can exercise their right to vote.
In response to questions about potential protests against the SIR process, Shivakumar clarified that the party's strategy revolves around raising awareness rather than agitation. He stated, "Rather than protesting against the SIR, we will focus on spreading awareness about it." This approach highlights the Congress party's commitment to protecting democratic rights and ensuring a fair electoral process in Karnataka.
