- Waterlogging badly hit areas like Dadar,Parel,Goregaon and Bandra-Kurla Complex,with suburban rail services also interrupted due to snapped overhead wires.
- Heavy rains caused multiple fatalities including 60-year-old man who fell into open stormwater drain in Sakinaka,leading to suspension of four BMC officials.
And honestly,that Sakinaka incident alone tells you how dangerous ground situation actually is . A pedestrian also died in Walkeshwar after balcony collapsed and there were injuries reported from tree falling near Raheja College in Santacruz West . These are not minor incidents scattered randomly… these are happening across different parts of city at same time.
Previous day numbers were even worse by the way . City had accumulated 172 mm of rain that day,with suburbs ranging between 165 mm and 189 mm . So this is not one bad afternoon,this has been building for days now.
Civic authorities say they are actively responding to structural damage reports and electrical hazards across affected zones . IMD also warns that heavy to very heavy rainfall will continue through weekend,with isolated regions in central Maharashtra potentially seeing extremely heavy showers as well.
Honestly,the delay in declaring school holiday for Saturday is what feels strange here . When neighboring districts have already taken that call and when IMD itself has flagged July 4 as peak day… the silence from Mumbai's major municipal corporations is something many parents are finding hard to understand .
