So Jet Airways saga continues,and now they are auctioning off more planes . It honestly feels like watching someone sell off family heirlooms piece by piece. Three more Boeing 737s are going up for e-auction on July 18,2026.
And these aren't just any planes,they are currently parked in major cities like Hyderabad,Mumbai,and Delhi . This whole thing is part of liquidation process since the airline stopped flying back in 2019. They have massive debts to clear.
But this isn't first time they are doing this. Just recently,they managed to sell five Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and got around $107 million for them . A company from Malta,Ace Aviation,bought them. So clearly,there is still interest in Jet's old fleet.
And tbh,it's just a bit sad to see airline that was once so prominent being dismantled like this.
Few things to understand about this whole situation:
- Three aircraft up for auction now includes two Boeing 737-800s and one 737-900 .
- Previous auction of five Boeing 777-300ERs was successful,sold for $107 million.
- The airline's total admitted claims are huge,around ₹15,723 crore.
When Jet Airways shut down its operations,it had total of eleven aircraft on its books . After selling these three 737s,there will still be three Airbus A330 aircraft left to be auctioned off . So the sale is not over yet.
And the money problem is just massive ah. The debt to financial creditors alone is about ₹7,807 crore . But total claims,including what they owe to employees and other creditors,is that staggering ₹15,723 crore figure. This auction money is just one step in a very long process.
Some people are saying this liquidation is a necessary step towards a potential revival of airline in future . But how can you revive something after selling off all its main assets? It feels little contradictory.
Everyone from creditors to former employees will be watching this auction on July 18 closely . But you have to wonder if this is really a path to recovery,or just the final,slow goodbye to an airline we all once knew…
