One very shocking and deeply sad news has come out involving Indian sailor who lost his life after violent attack on a cargo ship near coast of Oman. And honestly,the details surrounding this whole incident are making it even more difficult to process.
Indian Consulate in Dubai confirmed on Wednesday that MV GFS Galaxy,a cargo ship sailing under Cyprus flag,was targeted near Oman on July 12,2026 . The attack resulted in death of one crew member while majority of others managed to survive ordeal .
The sailor who lost his life was Herambh Karmarkar,a 30-year-old marine engineer from Pune . He was serving as third engineer on vessel for five months and was reportedly close to finishing his current assignment . Oman Coast Guard recovered his body after search operations concluded.
And that detail is what makes this especially painful. He was almost home.
His father-in-law Vivek Tandon mentioned that family was first notified by shipping firm on Tuesday . Tandon explained,"We are awaiting his mortal remains,which are currently with Oman Navy." He also shared that Karmarkar was graduate of City of Glasgow College in UK and had built proper career in merchant navy before this fatal voyage .
