India finished second overall at 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships, behind host nation China, and that is not small thing ah.
Indian contingent ended with total of 19 medals, including 10 gold,5 silver, and 4 bronze . That medal count also put India ahead of Japan, which finished third with 18 medals . For athletics, this kind of result feels quite encouraging.
And final day had proper big moment . Women's 4x400m relay team of Neeru Pathak,Bhumika Sanjay Nehate,Tahura Khatun, and Sehnoor Bawa won gold with new championship record time of 3:38.07s . Previous record was 3:38.20s,set by Japan in 2018,so breaking that mark is serious achievement.
Neeru's powerful anchor leg sealed victory, and honestly, that kind of finish gives goosebumps only . Relay events are not just about one runner being fast, every handover, every bend, every last push matters.
Few things standing out clearly from India's campaign:
- India finished second overall with 19 medals: 10 gold,5 silver,and 4 bronze .
- Women's 4x400m relay team broke championship record with 3:38.07s.
- India finished ahead of Japan, which took third place with 18 medals.
Men's 4x400m relay team also gave strong result . Piyush Raj,Sayed Sabeer,Ranjith Kumar S,and Mohammed Ashfaq won bronze after clocking 3:05.54s,and that too became new Indian U20 national record . Even bronze feels bigger when record comes with it.
Then Muskan won gold in women's 5,000m with timing of 16:53.08 . Long distance events need different kind of mindset,so this result deserves lot of respect. Venkatram Reddy Mogali also took men's 800m gold with personal best of 1:48.27s,which shows pressure did not stop him.
Field events also added to good feeling . Nishchay earned silver in men's discus throw with personal best of 60.10m,and he became first Indian U20 athlete to cross 60-meter barrier . Women's 4x100m relay team also won silver with 45.05s.
And tbh, this championship showed something bigger than just medal table . Relays, track, field events… India got results from different corners, not just one star carrying everything .
But now real question is what happens after this . These U20 athletes have shown they can stand strong in Asia, but will system support them properly when pressure gets bigger and expectations start piling up…
