Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan met with Armenian Defence Minister Suren Papkyan on February 3, 2026, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation. The meeting, held in the Armenian capital of Yerevan, focused on a wide range of security matters concerning both nations. An Indian delegation led by Gen Chauhan is currently on a four-day official visit to the country.
The Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) shared updates on the visit, highlighting the importance of this strategic engagement. During the visit, the CDS visited the National Defense Research University (NDRU), where he addressed faculty and students. His speech focused on the evolving global security environment and the emergence of technology as a primary determinant of power.
Key highlights of the diplomatic and military engagement included:
- Technological Transformation — Gen Chauhan emphasized the revolution in military affairs and the changing character of war.
- Multi-Domain Operations — The discussions covered new warfare domains, including cyber, electronic warfare (EW), space, and cognitive fields.
- Infrastructure Development — The CDS inaugurated an IT lab and a distance learning centre at the Vazgen Sargsyan Military Academy.
On Monday, the HQ IDS stated that the visit marks an important step in advancing shared strategic interests. The delegation also paid respects at the Armenian Genocide Memorial & Museum in Yerevan. This visit aims to enhance long-term defence and security collaboration between India and Armenia.
