Simple words on surface,but coming from leader of world's most populous nation at forum traditionally dominated by western powers… it lands differently.
India has been quietly building this identity for some time now — positioning itself as representative voice for developing nations . But this G7 appearance feels like more deliberate and visible push than before .
Three things Modi specifically pushed for at summit:

- Equitable economic growth — Modi stressed importance of fair trade practices that benefit developing economies,ensuring no country is left behind.

Honestly,these are not new demands. Developing nations have been raising exactly these concerns in global forums for decades. What feels different here is India putting its diplomatic weight behind them in space like G7 where such voices have historically struggled to find room .
Climate impact on vulnerable nations,unfair trade structures,technology access gaps… these issues affect billions of people directly. And yet mainstream global policy conversations have moved slowly on all three for very long time.
India's move here is also clearly strategic. By leading this narrative,India strengthens its alliances across Africa,Southeast Asia,Latin America and other developing regions. That kind of influence is not built overnight and Modi seems to be investing in it deliberately right now.
Some leaders at summit did acknowledge necessity of integrating Global South perspectives into mainstream global policies. Whether that acknowledgment translates into actual policy shifts or just stays as diplomatic courtesy… that part is still completely unclear .
