This Gulveer Singh mile run is actually not small thing ah . A 27-year-old athlete and Asian Games bronze medalist becoming first Indian to complete a mile in under four minutes feels like one of those moments Indian athletics people will remember for long time.
And this happened on May 30,2026,at the 24th Annual Music City Track Carnival held at Lee University in USA . Gulveer Singh finished race in 3:55.63 seconds, which is honestly a crazy marker for Indian distance running .
In same race,American runners Christopher Knight and Tristan Trevino came behind him with times of 3:59.72 and 4:00.27,respectively . So this was not some quiet solo timing also, this came in proper competitive race setting.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Gulveer Singh became first Indian to run mile in under four minutes with 3:55.63 seconds.
- Christopher Knight finished in 3:59.72 and Tristan Trevino finished in 4:00.27 in same race .
- Singh is set to compete in the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
And tbh, what makes this more interesting is that Gulveer Singh is not suddenly appearing from nowhere . He had already broken 13-minute barrier for the 5,000m track race with time of 12:59.77 seconds . That says he is not just having one good day, there is proper range in his distance running .
But bigger picture is also exciting rn because other Indian athletes are also doing serious work . Pooja recently set new national record in high jump at the Asian U20 Championships in Hong Kong, while Gurindervir Singh became first Indian to clock under 10.10 seconds in the 100m dash at the Federation Cup.
So when people say Indian athletics is slowly changing,it does not feel like empty hype anymore . Mile,5,000m,high jump,100m dash… different events are seeing Indians pushing old limits one by one.
And still, this is where expectations become tricky . One historic timing is great, but what happens next at Commonwealth Games and Asian Games will decide how far this momentum really goes…
