Something quite significant just happened in West Bengal politics and honestly,it is kind of shift that makes you wonder how much more pressure Trinamool Congress can actually absorb right now.
On July 11,2026,three former Rajya Sabha MPs from TMC — Sushmita Dev,Sukhendu Sekhar Ray,and Prakash Chik Baraik — were officially inducted into BJP during ceremony held in Kolkata . State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya was present at event and welcomed all three with BJP flags . Not small symbolic gesture at all.
And this did not happen in vacuum. TMC had already taken serious hit in recent Assembly elections and these departures seem directly connected to that electoral setback.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- All three leaders resigned from TMC before joining BJP,signaling this was deliberate and planned move,not impulsive decision.

Mamata Banerjee and TMC leadership are now under visible pressure to address concerns of remaining members and figure out strategy for upcoming elections . Because if prominent names keep walking out,that itself becomes the story,separate from any election result .
BJP on other side is clearly moving with purpose here. Welcoming established TMC names gives them ready credibility in pockets of West Bengal where these leaders already have existing support base . Political analysts are suggesting that if more TMC figures follow this pattern,consequences for party could go quite deep.
Honestly,this trend of political realignment has been building in West Bengal for some time now . Each resignation adds weight to next one and at some point it stops looking like individual decisions and starts looking like something more systematic .
Whether TMC can stop further erosion or whether more names follow Dev,Ray and Baraik into BJP camp… that question is sitting very uncomfortably over Kolkata politics right now and nobody really has clear answer yet
