Delhi people finally got some breathing space from brutal summer heat, and honestly, this kind of weather break feels like small blessing right now . After days of sweating through crazy temperatures, cloudy skies, light rain and thunderstorms have pulled city back from that 45 degrees Celsius zone.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said temperatures will stay below seasonal norms for now because of cloudy skies and intermittent weather activities . Late Thursday, thunderstorms and light rain moved across National Capital Region, and after that maximum temperature dropped sharply .
On May 30, 2026 ,IMD reported that maximum temperature in Delhi fell by around 5 degrees Celsius in just 24 hours . Friday recorded high of 36.8 degrees Celsius, which honestly sounds almost pleasant when you compare it with earlier heat .
Just one day before, temperatures had crossed 45 degrees Celsius at several places, including 45.6 degrees Celsius at Ridge . From Wednesday to Friday, maximum temperatures went down by 7.5 to 9.4 degrees Celsius, and that is not small change ah.
Few things standing out clearly in this weather shift:
- Cooler weekend ahead as IMD forecasts temperatures to remain low this weekend .
- Gradual temperature rise expected from next week by 6 to 7 degrees Celsius .
- Improved air quality as Delhi's Air Quality Index dropped from 207 to 123 .
But tbh, relief is not complete relief also . IMD has issued yellow alert for Saturday and Sunday, with prediction of light rain and strong winds . So yes, weather is cooler, but people still need to be careful while stepping out.
This change has come after severe heatwaves earlier in month . First heatwave was between April 23 and 25 ,and second was from May 18 to 21 ,with temperatures crossing 45 degrees Celsius in many areas . Delhi has already taken lot of heat this season.
And even now, humidity is keeping "feels-like" temperature around 39.5 degrees Celsius . So while thermometer may look better, body may still feel sticky, tired and uncomfortable outside . Water bottle is still necessary only.
IMD forecast says weekend will stay cooler, but warmer temperatures are expected to return soon . So Delhi gets this short pause from heat for now…but how long this relief actually lasts is another question…
