The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully apprehended Abhishek Kumar, a primary suspect in the notorious Mahadev online betting app scam. His arrest took place immediately upon his arrival at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad after returning from Dubai. This operation is part of a larger investigation into the illegal betting activities conducted under the Mahadev Book platform.
Kumar is alleged to have played a significant role in managing and facilitating online gambling operations linked to the Mahadev app. The investigation has uncovered his involvement in coordinating betting panels, collecting funds, and acquiring properties in Dubai using the illicit proceeds from these operations. Following his arrest, the CBI seized incriminating materials that substantiate his active participation in the scam.
- Ongoing investigations — The CBI has taken over 13 FIRs related to the Mahadev betting app from various police stations in Chhattisgarh.
- Charges filed against 100 individuals — The CBI has so far filed eight chargesheets against numerous accused, including the app's main promoters.
- Red Corner Notices issued — Seven Red Corner Notices and two extradition requests are pending against absconding promoters.
After his arrest, Kumar was presented before a local court in Hyderabad, where a three-day transit remand was granted. Subsequently, he was transferred to Raipur, where he is now in police custody for further questioning. The ongoing investigation aims to dismantle the extensive network behind the Mahadev app, which has drawn significant attention from law enforcement agencies.
Despite Kumar's arrest, the two main promoters of the Mahadev app, Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, are still evading capture. The CBI is actively pursuing their extradition, with ongoing efforts to bring them to justice. This case highlights the increasing scrutiny on online betting operations in India and the government's commitment to combating illegal gambling activities.
