Mumbai is flooded again and honestly,this time things are looking quite bad. July 4,2026 and BMC has already started shutting down roads across multiple areas of city because of severe waterlogging from heavy overnight rainfall.
IMD issued red alert for Mumbai Metropolitan Region which is not small thing. Red alert means extremely heavy rain is expected and when that kind of warning comes out,you know situation on ground is already getting out of control .
Areas like Andheri,Chembur and Vikhroli are among worst hit zones right now. Water levels reportedly rose rapidly in these places creating genuinely dangerous conditions for anyone trying to commute or move around.
And then there is Mogra Nala situation which honestly made everything worse.
Mogra Nala is one of city's key drainage channels and it overflowed completely during this rainfall. Multiple smaller drains connected to same system have also reached full capacity. So water has nowhere to go and just keeps sitting on roads,building up,blocking everything .
Three things standing out clearly from what is being reported:
- Red alert issued by IMD warning of severe weather conditions that could lead to more flooding.
- Several key roads closed by BMC,directly impacting daily commutes and transport across city.
- Emergency response activated with BMC mobilizing resources to manage crisis and restore normalcy.
BMC is now urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors wherever possible. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue throughout the day and high tides are also predicted which will likely make flooding worse in low-lying areas. So situation is not improving anytime soon.
Every single monsoon season,Mumbai goes through this . Experts have been calling for better drainage infrastructure for years and urban planning that actually accounts for climate resilience. The argument is that drainage systems need to be capable of handling intensity of rainfall that has become normal in recent years .
And yet here we are again,same roads flooded,same areas cut off,same conversations happening.
BMC is monitoring weather updates and says further action will be taken as needed. But for residents of Andheri,Chembur,Vikhroli and surrounding areas,they are just trying to get through day safely right now with water still rising and no clear sense of when things will actually drain out…
