Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth has called for heightened vigilance and a focus on intelligence-led operations to effectively combat the growing terrorist threats in Jammu and Kashmir. During his recent visit to the northern and central regions of Kashmir, specifically Kupwara and Budgam, he assessed the operational readiness of the forces stationed there. The visit was part of a broader strategy to enhance security measures in the face of evolving challenges from militant groups.
The Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) reported that General Seth visited the Rashtriya Rifles sector headquarters under the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps. He received comprehensive briefings on the current security situation and the various initiatives in place to "detect, deter, and decisively" respond to terrorist activities. This proactive approach is critical in an area that has seen a surge in violence and militant activities.
- Operational Preparedness Reviewed — General Seth reviewed counter-terrorism operations and operational readiness.
- Commendations for Gallantry — Soldiers were recognized for their bravery and dedication in counter-terrorism efforts.
- Focus on Coordination — Emphasized the need for seamless collaboration among all stakeholders for effective responses.
While commending the troops for their professionalism and commitment, General Seth urged them to maintain a relentless focus on operational strategies. He highlighted the necessity of being ahead of potential threats, ensuring that the forces can respond swiftly and accurately to any emerging situation. The emphasis on intelligence-led operations indicates a shift toward a more strategic approach in tackling terrorism.
This visit comes on the heels of significant counter-terror operations in the region, including the recent neutralization of a high-ranking commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) identified as Yasir. The operation took place in the dense forests of Yusmarg in the Budgam district, showcasing the Army's ongoing commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and preventing infiltration attempts.
